Pearl Rose, daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Aegeter) Kent, was born October 1, 1915, at Sumner, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner by Rev. Carl Mardorf. She received her education in the Sumner Schools, graduating from Sumner High School in 1932. On June 22, 1936, she was united in marriage with Lester D. Platte at St. John Lutheran Church. Pearl was employed for seventeen years at Helen’s Apparel and also cleaned at the Sumner Laundromat. She was a lifelong resident of Sumner, except for a couple of years when she and her husband resided in California, while he was in the service. She was also a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church circle and assumed leadership positions in the ladies aid. She was also a member of the Sumner Library Board for fourteen years. She enjoyed bridge, cross-stitch, ceramics, and other crafts, feeding and watching birds, but most of all she loved time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was pleased to remain in her home, which she loved until December 31, 2009, when she entered Hillcrest, where she received loving care.

She is survived by two children, Sharon (Duane) Behrens of Sumner, and Robert Platte of Wateloo; four grandchildren, Dan (Anne) Behrens of Schaumburg, Illinois, David (Michelle) Behrens of St. Charles, Illinois, Diane (Pierre) LaMere of Excelsior, Minnesota, and Dennis (Jodi) Behrens of Marion, Iowa; eleven great-grandchildren, Lance, Drew, Wade, and Grant Behrens- Curtis and Dustin Behrens -Joseph and Brianna LaMere- and Emma, Evan, and Blake Behrens; two great-great-grandchildren, Dillon Behrens, and Eliza Behrens; one sister, Margaret Smith; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Kent; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester on December 4, 1992; her parents; four brothers, Jess, Victor, Walter, and Arthur;  and three sisters, Inez, Mae, and Norma.
